We all know the popularity of WordPress comes from it’s ease of use.
Well what if there was a plugin that would turn WordPress into a fully functioning Learning Management System (LMS)?
You would be able to use all your WordPress skills to setup and maintain your online learning in a simple and easy way.
This is such an attractive solution that a number of plugins have been created to enable a WordPress site to incorporate an LMS. This enables a full set of course and user management options whilst still being a fully functioning website.
In our opinion the most fully developed WordPress LMS plugin is LearnDash.

Much of the excitement around LearnDash comes from people using the platform to create and sell courses online. Whilst it’s great for this, it also works well as an LMS to run employee training and induction as well as other online learning.
A big advantage of using LearnDash is there is a range of plugins both from LearnDash and other developers that can extend the functionality of LearnDash. This enhanced functionality can enable:
- Online purchasing of courses;
- Subscriptions;
- Integration with membership plugins;
- Integration with online forums;
- Integration with event and calendar plugins;
- Certificates and badges.
With additional plugins LearnDash can be used as an LMS to load and run Articulate 360 courses, which in our opinion is a best of both worlds solution. In this configuration the Storyline or Rise Course can create a xAPI (Tincan) output which can be made to store learning records in any Learning Record Store.
We use the Groups plugin from UncannyOwl to create a system whereby clients can purchase courses for their employees and manage the access and monitor the progress on the front-end of the site.
Most importantly LearnDash is an LMS that will not break the bank.
